About Deskside Report
Deskside Report is for the two-thirds of the country that doesn't recognize itself in either party's talking points. We check a story against both sides before we print it, say plainly what we don't yet know, and answer to readers — not to a campaign, including our own opinions.
We're an independent news and opinion desk built for readers who are tired of choosing between two versions of the same story. Our name comes from the old sports-desk tradition of checking the wire before you print a word — and from a promise: skeptical of every side's messaging, loyal to no party or candidate, accountable to sources, on the record.
How We Work: Both Sides of the Desk
Our signature format takes a story making news, lays out how outlets on the right are framing it and how outlets on the left are framing it, and then gives you our own independent read — grounded in primary sources, government data, and reporting we can verify directly, not in either side's press release. When our reporting can't confirm a fact, a figure, or a quote, we say so in a dedicated "What We Don't Yet Know" section, rather than smoothing over the gap. We do not split the difference by default; sometimes one side's account holds up better than the other's, and we'll tell you when that's the case.
Ownership & Editorial Independence
Deskside Report is owned by United American Party Media. Ownership is disclosed here, and in our site footer, because we believe readers are entitled to know who owns what they're reading. Editorial decisions — which stories we cover, how we frame them, and what our independent reads conclude — are made by the Deskside editorial desk, not by the ownership group, and are not reviewed for alignment with any party's positions before publication. We hold ourselves to the same standard we'd expect of any outlet with an ownership stake in the outcome of American politics: judge us by what we print, and hold us to it.
